Hello All,
It has certainly been a while since my recent posts and there are a few reasons for that (none of them good, but still.) I will be walking through them in separate sections.
Teaching Position
I have had the opportunity over the last two years to serve as a history teacher at a young Christian Classical School in my area. This position served as a wonderful intermediate position while my church was able to organize a full-time position for me. There were so many moments of happiness and humor as well as definitely some moments of stress and frustrations. However, through the ups and downs of education, I am beyond thankful for the relationships I made and the small impact I was able to have on the students. I am also thankful for the ability to put my History B.A. degree to good use. For a history major the ideal career path is to be Indiana Jones. Realistically, teaching is the most common application of a history degree, and working through US History as well as other periods of history was truly a wonderful experience.
Graduated with my Masters Degree
When I graduated from Bob Jones University with my Bachelors in 2017, I was given the opportunity to stick around for about 5 years and serve as a counselor in one of the male residence halls. Initially, I felt extremely unqualified because I was not a “Bible” major who had all these religious classes. I could talk about the Roman Empire till I was blue in the face, but unpacking the theological depths of antinomianism? I couldn’t even define antinomianism! But part of the requirement for the position was enrolling a masters program. I figured if I was going to be counseling others, I needed some theological training so I chose a seminary degree and away we went. What I had not expected was the opportunity to not just counsel but to get more and more connected with my local church through ministry and teaching opportunities. I was taking topics and themes from the classroom and directly applying them to real-world situations. That counselor position eventually turned into a supervisor of the entire residence halls, which added administrative and confrontational aspects to the job I had not previously been responsible for. What it taught me was that part of biblical leadership involves organization as well as love-infused confrontations at times.
I loved my time at Bob Jones and look back on those years with such fondness and thankfulness. Just this past semester, I was able to turn in the final assignment as I completed my Masters of Divinity degree with a focus in Preaching and Pastoral ministry.
Associate Pastoral Position
The next step for me appears to be a pastoral role in my local church Bethany Bible Church, Hendersonville NC. Through my time ministering at the church, a summer internship position was offered to me and working in the church on a semi-full time basis was all I needed to experience when I knew this was going to be my calling. I love the schedule and process of vocational church ministry. From the studying, and preparation, to the life-on-life aspect, it gives me an opportunity to combine all the skills I have received through my various positions.
As I continue on throughout this summer and Lord willing for many years to come, I am excited to continue to teach, study, and present people with truth from Scripture in ways that change their lives.
Everyday Doctrine
Another exciting aspect of this job is it will allow me to stop having to prepare 3-4 classes each evening for school the next day along with completing my own seminary homework on the weekends. This will free up time to focus again on the website! I am eager to continue writing and providing Christian resources for my own benefit as well as any who chose to read it!
I am planning to be much more regular in my posting as well as other bigger projects. I am very excited to share with you some newer items, but all in good time!
As always continue to pray for myself and my wife as we continue to serve in our various positions. We are in an exciting season and want to make the most of it by getting the most out of it!
